Dr. Harun Kimani
Dr. Harun Kimani is the dean of the school of medicine in Kenyatta University. Dr Kimani studied medicine in University of Nairobi, Masters in Public Health in Moi University, Eldoret and a PhD from JKUAT in Kenya.
He has subsequently done global health management as AFYABORA fellow with University of Washington in Seattle and has been a research fellow with CFAR in UW. He leads a team of dedicated team of faculty that trains students in the area of medicine at Kenyatta University school of medicine. Dr. Kimani was appointed as Board Member to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital [KUTRRH] Board to represent health related schools of Kenyatta University because KUTRRH is mandated to provide facilities for medical education for the Kenyatta University and for research either directly or through other co-operating health institutions [legal notice no. 4].
He has been an adviser to the university management on establishment of medical courses in the university as well as setting up the university hospital. Kenyatta University offers undergraduate degrees of bachelor of medicine and surgery, nursing, pharmacy, medical lab sciences and Bio-medical engineering. KU has postgraduate level training in family medicine and nursing while plans to train residents in surgery, internal medicine, paediatrics and obstetrics in KUTRRH during the coming academic year are underway. His research interest is in the area of maternal health, HIV prevention and TB. He has worked for many years in the ministry of health in Kenya health system, rising to the level of Senior Assistant Director of Medical services. He teaches management, epidemiology and biostatistics to medical students. Harun is interested in writing grants proposals for collaboration with other universities. He would also like to see faculty and student exchanges between KU as well as KUTRRH and other Kenyan and renown world medical schools.
